Will Sharon Agathon go Not-Without-My-Daughter on Adama? Which sucker will rescue Kara Thrace from certain death? If you don't wanna know what happens when Battlestar returns, don't click here.
Grace Park of Galactica gives a suspiciously subtle performance as Sharon Agathon I'm warning you, if you don't want to be just a little bit spoiled for the mid-season return of Battlestar Galactica, turn back now.
After watching the screener of the return episode of Battlestar Galactica, I just had to talk to someone about it. Lucky for me, Grace Park agreed to an interview. I'd been wondering when the robot half of The Fighting Agathons would get to play out the inevitable righteous fury of her recent stolen-baby storyline, and I was suprised at the lovely toned-down performance Park delivered in the upcoming episode. But surely, vengeful fury is coming soon, right?
Lucky for me, when I get Park on the phone from Vancouver, she's a little bit confused about which scenes have already aired and which are yet to come. But the scene so many fans have been expecting may not exist.
"I don't know exactly which scene you're talking about. We shoot several takes, and the producers make choices based not just on performance, but on based on where it sits within the episode, if it's just before a commercial break or after an emotional scene. I've been surprised in the past by the choices," she says.
In the season return, Agathon is reunited with her child, Hera, onboard a Cylon base ship. It's also her first extended scene opposite herself, playing Boomer. The performance that made it to the episode is quite subtle, but Park says there were very emotional takes. "We knew it was an important scene, a big moment for Sharon." Hey, wait a minute - when Cylons are subtle, they're usually plotting. Is this the precursor to a doublecross?
"I don't think so," Park says. "Sharon Agathon thinks of herself as human, that's her tribe. She's been betrayed by them, but that's where her loyalties lie. She wears the uniform, her husband is human, her child is half human."
By the end of the episode, it looks like Sharon Agathon will get a short break from heartbreak. Not so for other characters. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace is rescued by the person who probably most fervently wishes her dead. If you're a spoiler junkie, you've probably heard that Starbuck's fate on the show is in jeopardy. She's doesn't die exactly, but nor does she live, the rumours say. Not to worry, it doesn't happen in this episode. It's an entirely different sexy lunatic who neither lives nor dies.
Like the rest of us, Park has about a million questions about the universe of Galactica, but if she could have the answer to just one, she knows what she'd choose. "What is 'the plan'? Is there still a plan? Has the plan changed?" she laughs.
As if the Cylons would tell Sharon the plan! She'd just turn around and tell Adama.
