'Battlestar Galactica' Producers say "What Other Hybrid?"

The Battlestar Galactica panel at Comic Con was one of the most informative by a long shot. The packed panel was careful to avoid giving anything too serious away, but were very skilled at giving us just enough information to have a feel for where the show might be going as it prepares to leave the air. One major implication from Battlestar Galactica Season 3's finale, however, seems destined to forever remain a mystery.

The reveal of four of the final five certainly had major consequences for how we look at the future – as well as the past – of the show and the characters. It also revealed one bit of underlying information that would seem to have a unique significance of its own: there are now two human/Cylon hybrids.

Of course the assumption is that the final five are some sort of different model altogether from the other skin jobs. It doesn't seem they have back up bodies or duplicates laying around. As far as we know, none of the Cylons know anything about the final five, including themselves apparently. But one thing that seemed to be an imperative for the Cylons' was the ability to breed with humans, hence the importance of Hera. Now that the chief has been revealed as a Cylon, one would assume that his son, Nicholas, who is also a hybrid would have a similar importance to the plot. At the Comicon panel, however, the writers and producers indicated that Nicholas would not have a huge role in the ongoing story ala Hera, but instead would be basically ignored.

Ronald D. Moore answered the question of Nicholas' role by stating that Hera would definitely be pivotal to the landscape of season four, but that Nicholas may essentially be left in the background.

Of course, these are the same people who tried to convince us that Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) was dead.
