I have traditionally stayed away from reviews in the past on episodes. But I have decided with BSG ending with Season 4 that I write my own opinions and thoughts out about the episodes. Why not other sites have those, right? With Razor airing tonight at Scifi Channel I thought I would write up my review for the episode. I have seen it already due to someone with a screener copy uploading it to the net. Now I don’t know if this is the final version but I am going to be watching it tonight as I would much rather see it on a big screen TV then on my computer monitor. Razor starts off reviewing the deaths of Admiral Helena Cain (played by Michelle Forbes), the death of Commander Fisk (played by Graham Beckel) and the death of Commander Barry Garner (played by John Heard). Now it is Commander Lee “Apollo” Adama’s (played by Jamie Bamber) turn at command of the Pegasus. It shows President Laura Roslin (played by Mary McDonnell) introducing Commander Adama and his speech to the crew. As this happens Captain Kendra Shaw (played by Stephanie Chaves-Jacobson) is working in the galley. This is where Razor can be a tad confusing at throughout the movie it flashes back and forth through the eyes of Shaw. Where I am a little disappointed with the movie is where they portray Adm. Cain and Gina in a lesbian relationship. It’s not like they show them in bed naked or anything like that but they exchange a simple kiss and an embrace. But I find it stereotypical that they have a strong, successful, confident, and tough woman being gay. It just left me blah over that point in the show. Well if you have watched Season 2’s episode Pegasus, Resurrection Ship Part 1, and Part 2 you really don’t learn anything new about what happened to the Pegasus and her crew before it found Galactica. What you do learn is about Commander Lee Adama’s first command with the Pegasus. He is ordered to investigate a missing Raptor and runs into Cylons that are CGI remodels of the original Cylons from the 1978 series. It does bring back the memories when you see them. There ships look more streamline but they are the originals.
You learn that they are “Guardians” of the first hybrid attempt of Cylon and Humans from Sharon “Boomer” Valerii (played by Grace Park). This is where the Razor Flashbacks come into play as Admiral William Adama (played by Edward James Olmos) explains that he found the site where the Cylons where creating the hybrid at the end of the first Cylon war. Adm. Adama wants payback for what the Cylons where doing to the humans. Major Shaw who is now XO of Pegasus is leading the strike mission to the hybrid Basestar in an attempt to retrieve the missing Raptor crew and to destroy the Basestar. This is where you get to see more good old fashion battle scenes that we all come to love about the show. You will also see the old centurions speak. It is quite a good change from the new silent models. Major Shaw and team to include Captain Kara “Starbuck” Thrace (played by Katee Sackhoff) rescue the Raptor crew but come under heavy fire and the nuclear weapon they take is damaged and Shaw is hurt. Shaw orders Starbuck to leave with the survivors and she will detonate the weapon. But first talks with the hybrid who warns Shaw about Starbuck’s role in the fleet which is not good. Overall we are not learning a great deal many new things about our crew of the Galactica. But a rehash of some old material is far better then nothing at all since Season 3 ended. The effects are awesome and we see more of the Pegasus from all angles and see more of its weaponry. The jumping back and forth will make you dizzy at times but it is a good story worth telling. I will be adding to this when the DVD is released on December 4th so stayed tuned to Galactica.com/Galacticabbs.com for further updates. Check out the screen caps HERE.
