'Galactica' Guy Signs with NBC David Eick will develop shows, continue on 'Caprica' April 18, 2008
David Eick"Battlestar Galactica" is in the midst of its final season, but executive producer David Eick won't want for work anytime soon.
For starters, there's the "Galactica" prequel "Caprica," which is scheduled to begin production on a pilot later this spring. And now Eick has signed an overall deal with Universal Media Studios, the production arm of NBC Universal, to create and develop other projects, Variety reports.
Elsewhere, the trades report that ABC has ordered a pilot presentation from "Andy Richter Controls the Universe" creator Victor Fresco and recruited Stephen Hopkins ("24," "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers") to direct its drama pilot "The Unusuals."
Under his NBC Universal deal, Eick will adapt one of the studio's existing properties for a series (the rights to the show aren't completely settled, so the studio isn't revealing the title). It's territory he knows well -- in addition to "Battlestar Galactica," Eick also executive produced NBC's "Bionic Woman" this season.
Eick is also attached to two other projects: an adventure show called "AKA" from writer Kerry Ehrins ("Friday Night Lights") and a drama in the vein of "Hart to Hart" with scribe Dario Scardapane.
At ABC, Fresco -- whose credits also include "My Name Is Earl" and "Life on a Stick" -- will write and executive produce a comedy about a guy trying to do the right thing in an amoral world. Emmy winner Hopkins is set to direct "The Unusuals," which is set at a New York police precinct.
